Helicopter Medical Training
Specialized Aeromedical Evacuation Training
Ermes Inc., in collaboration with strategic partners Esculapio Formazione and the 15th Wing of the Italian Air Force's Aeromedical Evacuation Unit, offers specialized training programs for healthcare professionals involved in emergency medical assistance aboard helicopters.
Italy's Leadership in Air Rescue and Medical Evacuation Services
Italy has a longstanding tradition of excellence in air rescue and medical evacuation services. The country's National Firefighters Corps (Vigili del Fuoco) plays a pivotal role in disaster management and civil protection, operating a fleet of specialized aircraft and equipment. Additionally, Italy's participation in the rescEU program, a strategic reserve of European disaster response capabilities, further underscores its commitment to emergency preparedness and response.
Training Location and Methodology
The training is conducted in Italy at one of our bases, depending on the chosen course period. The program includes both theoretical preparation and practical exercises, utilizing aeronautical simulators, simulated emergency scenarios, and real flight missions. This comprehensive approach ensures that medical personnel are fully prepared to operate effectively in aeromedical evacuation conditions.
Course language:
For groups of at least 10 participants whose native language is Ukrainian, the course can be conducted entirely in Ukrainian. In this case, booking is required at least 2 months in advance.

AIR-RESCUE H.E.M.S. Training Program
1. Introduction
The aeromedical rescuers of the Italian Air Force, serving with the 15th Wing, are a key component in Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. They operate within national search and rescue missions, adhering to the standards and equipment specified by current regulations. In their roles, aeromedical rescuers serve as an indispensable link between the patient, ground rescuers, and the aerial evacuation units. They participate in the entire rescue mission process: from receiving the call, assessing the patient's condition, stabilizing and transporting the patient, to the final transfer to a healthcare facility.
2. Course Objectives
The course is specifically designed to train aeromedical rescuers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate effectively in the complex conditions typical of SAR missions. The program complies with national and international standards established by the Ministry of Health and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
During the course, participants will acquire the skills needed to manage clinical situations of mild to moderate severity. Additionally, they will receive information about the national healthcare network, enabling them to correctly choose the most suitable facility for patient admission based on the patient's condition.
3. Course Duration and Structure
The course has a total duration of 40 hours, spread over 5 days (Monday to Friday), with the possibility of adapting the schedule to participants' needs.
The program ensures that aeromedical rescuers are prepared to face any possible operational scenario, guaranteeing maximum safety for both patients and crew.
The training involves the use of both official equipment supplied to the Italian Air Force and additional medical devices used in civilian emergency services.
4. Course Content
20 hours of theoretical training.
20 hours of practical exercises, conducted both in simulated operational environments and aboard aircraft.
All educational materials are provided directly by the training organization.
5. Certification and Certificates
Upon completion of the course, four national certificates accredited by the Ministry of Health according to SIAATIP standards will be issued. These certificates attest to the competencies acquired and ensure participants are prepared to handle emergency situations in complex scenarios.
The certificates issued are:
National Rescuer Course – Comprehensive training in first aid according to international standards, with particular attention to pre-hospital emergency management and rapid intervention in critical situations.
BLSD Course (Basic Life Support and Defibrillation) – Official certification for the use of defibrillators, compliant with international ILCOR and AHA (American Heart Association) protocols. This certification is mandatory for healthcare personnel and highly recommended for rescue professionals.
PTC-B Course (Prehospital Trauma Care – basic level) – Practical and theoretical course dedicated to the stabilization and immobilization of trauma patients, strictly following international ILCOR protocols to ensure proper management of polytraumatized patients in emergency conditions.
H.E.M.S./H.S.R. Course – Advanced training on medical procedures and specific protocols for aeromedical evacuation missions and interventions in complex scenarios, according to standards recognized by the SIAATIP-HEMS Association.
